“Exploring Artistry” with Claire Voss.

This session will explore methods and issues around teaching artistry. Working with students at various levels, Claire will use the Act 1 Swanhilda solo and the Doll solo from Act 2 from “Coppelia”, to demonstrate how knowing background/history of the ballet aids the students’ understanding of the significance of the steps and their inherent artistry. Claire will delve into choreographic influences at the time the ballet was created, generate understanding of the mime conventions within the dance and how all these factors inform the artistry and affect the characterisation.
PLEASE NOTE:: Teachers attending the workshop are welcome invite their students to participate in this wonderful opportunity. Students should be familiar with the choreography of both Coppelia solos (Learn from Youtube). Student fee $30.00

“The nature and purpose of Ballet Exercises” with Denise Nunn

During this session, Denise will explore the following: Ballet class is a programmed progression from barre exercises leading ultimately to performance of grand adage and grande allegro. When this progression is purposefully analysed and planned by the teacher beforehand, and is expressed to students at their level – there is more progress for the student. There is more understanding by the students of why they need to focus in a particular way while being aware of performance quality and what the audience sees. Programming also involves appropriate musical rhythms for each exercise.
PLEASE NOTE: Teachers attending the workshop are welcome to invite their trainee teachers and senior helpers to attend this informative workshop. Fee $30.00
