How you can support professional development for teachers

Your support helps us provide learning opportunities that strengthen ballet teaching across Western Australia. Every contribution—large or small—helps teachers continue learning, growing and sharing their knowledge with future generations of dancers.

Examples of how your support might be used include:

    • bringing outstanding guest teachers to Western Australia
    • subsidising workshops and professional development for teachers
    • providing educational resources for teachers and studios
    • assisting with travel and accommodation costs for visiting presenters
    • supporting venue hire for educational events
    • funding live musicians for workshops and masterclasses
    • helping teachers attend specialist training or conferences
    • developing new educational programmes and mentoring initiatives
    • supporting projects that strengthen ballet education across Western Australia

If there is a particular aspect of our work you would like to support, we’d love to discuss it with you.

FUnd a teacher scholarship

One of WACBTA’s most important goals is to support ballet teachers in gaining recognised teaching qualifications that strengthen their knowledge, confidence and long-term careers.

To help achieve this, we partner with Empowerdance Pty Ltd to provide scholarships towards the Certificate IV in Dance Teaching & Management—a nationally recognised qualification tailored specifically for classical ballet teachers.

Your support can help fund all or part of a scholarship, giving teachers the opportunity to undertake formal training that might otherwise be beyond their financial reach.

Your contribution will help teachers build long and rewarding careers in classical ballet education. By investing in one teacher’s education, you’re also investing in the hundreds of dancers they will teach throughout their career.

If you would like to support a scholarship or discuss sponsoring a future recipient, we’d love to hear from you.

Partner with a Programme

WACBTA works throughout the year to bring exceptional educational opportunities to ballet teachers and dancers across Western Australia.

By partnering with a specific programme or initiative, your organisation can help make these opportunities possible while becoming part of a shared commitment to excellence in dance education.

Partnership opportunities may include supporting:

  • visiting guest teachers and international presenters
  • teacher workshops and professional development events
  • the WACBTA Boys’ Club programme
  • Swan Lake Summer and other educational initiatives
  • regional outreach programmes
  • new projects that strengthen ballet education across Western Australia

Every partnership is different, and we’re happy to work with supporters to create opportunities that align with their interests and values.

If you’d like to discuss partnering with a programme or creating a tailored sponsorship opportunity, we’d love to hear from you.

Together we can create educational opportunities that might otherwise never happen.

Meet Scott putman

Scott Putman is a choreographer, movement educator, director and writer integrating contemporary ballet and modern techniques into practices deeply influenced by eastern philosophy, neuro science and contemporary physics.

He is the creator of the Elemental Body Alignment System© (EBAS) and Fundamental Conscious Movement (FCM); both of which support a holistic approach of remapping neural muscular pathways, expanding greater range of motion as well as encouraging qualitative expression for a more authentic and holistic movement practice.

Since graduating with a BFA in Dance and Choreography in from Columbia College, he has created dance works focused on the belief that choreography is the art of shaping energy in space. Scott has also danced with both modern and ballet companies such as Mordine and Company Dance Theater, Ballet Theater of Chicago, Minnesota Ballet, Demetrius Klein Dance Company as well as his own company Cerulean Dance Theater in addition to several independent choreographers such as Bob Eisen and Randy Duncan.

After extensive performing, Scott returned to the academic arena at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) where he received his MFA exploring the parallels of modern physics and eastern philosophy as a vehicle of expression and physical training.

Directly after his time at UCI he was invited to join the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University in the department of Dance and Choreography as a visiting professor which turned into a 22 year run as a tenured professor teaching across the curriculum in both the technical and creative tracks. During this time he continued to develop his choreographic vision with Amaranth Contemporary Dance and shared EBAS levels I and II with the student body.

Most recently Scott has turned to weaving his skills in Neuro-Kinesiology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Thai Body Work and Equine Assisted Learning under the umbrella of Emerald Energetics which focuses on movement, sound, light and equine assisted wellness. He continues to create three dimensional kinetic landscapes for professional dance companies and universities world wide.
